Day 18: The Lost Earring

The day was odd, I should say. I was in a weird delirious-ish state, but I was getting so much work done! The boy was sick and annoyed with me, and I missed an important meeting today, which was a bad thing :| It completely slipped my mind - which I feel terrible about. Also looks like my trip will be extended till end of April.

In the evening, I left office early - at 4.45pm (record-breaking stuff) and reached the apartment by 6pm. Sunil Rao also came back with me, and turns out he has an apartment in the same building! Cool coincidence! I went with him to Coach where he bought bags for himself and Bon, and then went with him to the Apple store (so pretty!) and he bought her an iPod. We both then went for a dinner of burgers - where lo and behold, we ran into Akshaya. Hyd Googlers are everywhere, and you bump into them everywhere, no matter what part of the world you're in, it seems like! Finished dinner and walked back home and I was online after. Sunny got back, again hungry and with no dinner in her stomach.

A bit of mailing, a bit of blogging, a bit of hanging around online like a jobless idiot, a bit of complaining to Sas and a bit of annoyance.

Time to sleep.

Day 17: Time for performance evaluation

It's that time of the year again when we all write feedback for each other in hopes that it will eventually pay off in a bump in the other person's rating (or a dip, depending on how your corporate-brain is inclined).

I had so many meetings today, but I met one interesting manager from the Chicago office. He was very passionate about everything he was saying, so I lean towards believing him. It was a short meeting though, and I'm sure I made a decent enough impression. I'm fairly good at work, as it happens! :)

Grand Can(not)yon.

We considered driving up to the Grand Canyon this weekend, but almost as soon as we considered it, we dropped the idea. Near-impossible.

Sunil Rao.

Anyhow, got lots of work done and then in the evening I finally met Sunil Rao who is in MTV too! Poor kid was stressed out and jetlagged. I had dinner with him and we waited for the longest time for our respective shuttles - but he missed his, so he called a cab and left. He'll be moving to SF tomorrow.

Came home to discover that the door was unlocked, and I got the shock of my life - I wondered if I'd left it open in the morning, which is HIGHLY unlikely. And I met my entire Hyd team! Which was so much fun. I told them the news. And in the middle of it, my new roommate walks in! He introduced himself in the middle. And then he vanished. So was solved the mystery of the unlocked door!

Sunny's here as well ! :)

Worked on the site for a bit, and now I'm SOOOOOOPER tired. Off to bed I go!

Day 16: Allan and Noble go to Vietnamese restaurant

[Read: Harold and Kumar go to Whitecastle] :P

Yep - I went with the crazy duo to a fancy Vietnamese restaurant this evening. But -- let me rewind.

Google Shuttle Drama.

The day started with me feeling kind of sick and lying around in bed for a long time in the morning, although the plan was to go kick some muscle butt! (exercise). Sigh, unfortunately "womanhood" had it's way with me in the morning. So I decided against going all the way to the Mountain View office, and decided to work out of the SF office instead. Sunny went to work. I woke up and logged in at 9 and started working, only to get an email reminder at 10am about dinner plans with Noble (who usually works in Denver, so I didn't want to skip this). The last shuttle out to MTV was at 10.40am. Drama! I ruuuuuuushed to get ready, and you know those moments when Murphy's law holds so true? That's what happened to me - I couldn't find my everyday things even though I had laid out everything that I wanted to wear the previous evening! I had oiled my hair the previous night too - so I had to wash my hair! Time flying, time flying.

10.34 - It normally takes 5 minutes to walk to the shuttle stop. I RAN out of the house, urged the lift to go faster, and RAN 0.4 miles all the way to the shuttle stop - in the rain, wet hair flying into my face and blocking my vision. I had one corner of my eye behind me, expecting the bus to turn the corner, and when that didn't happen, I thought I'd missed it. And then I made the turn - running on the roads like a wild child... and I saw the bus standing there, the door just closing. I ran faster, I waved my hands over my head, hoping someone would see, hoping it would stop. Thankfully, the driver saw me in the rear view mirror, and opened the door again. I tumbled into the bus, huffing, puffing, wet and sweating. Disgusting. But - I had made it! :) I told you, drama.

Work.

It was business as usual. I did SO much work. It was cold and rainy all through the day, and I was feeling so cold and disoriented and tired all through. Did NOT feel like working, but eventually got lots of work done. And surprise, surprise - I was done at 5.30pm!

Vietnamese Dinner.

Fast forward to the top of this post. :) I went for dinner with Allan and Noble. Allan picked me up and then we picked up Noble at Sports Page, went to this place. Caught up, ate some good food, had a beer. Laughed and cracked obscene jokes. It's always SO much fun to hang out with those two!

Noble left after dinner, and Allan dropped me at main campus where I met this red haired chick called Madhavi from Delhi. We got on the shuttle together, and Sunny joined us. It was nice getting to know this girl - she seemed fun, and was good to talk to - from Stanford she is, and just 23. I can think of 5 different people among my friends who would have a crush on her. Lol. Anyway, we spoke and then Sunny and I walked back from the shuttle stop.

Got back, spoke to Sas, chatted online with Ashlene and we realised we won't be real "roommates" and now it's time to go to bed. :)

Day 15: Hunger Games

Paul had very sweetly invited me to join him and his team for a movie - Hunger Games, and today was it! Turns out there were extra tickets, so I ended up not buying one. This makes up for me missing the Hyd offsite I guess! ;) Lol.

Anyway, I woke up late because I was going to work out of the SF office today. Enough sleep made the difference, I think. I felt a lot better today, and looked a lot better today too! Worked out of SF and had my lunch meeting. Also met with Paul, Popper, Shira, Michael and Kevin who are now working out of there. Took like, one break through the day though, because I had to finish by 5pm to go watch the movie.

Movie at Kabuki.

We went to Kabuki for the movie, which is a theatre that serves alcohol - so I drank before and during the movie. BAD idea, because I wanted to go pee! There was no interval, even though it was a 2.5 hour long movie, so I reached point of desperation. It was a tad miserable, yes.

The movie was alright - too hyped, I thought. It's big here right now. But it was fun going with all these folks! I took a cab back because Sunny was already waiting for me at the apartment, plus I was too lazy to find public transport back.

I got home, oiled my hair, did my laundry and got stuff together to go to the gym in the morning - I will now exercise everyday, no matter what! The decision has been made!!

Which means I have to wake up real early tomorrow, so I should sleep now. :)

Day 14: A Sunday To Remember!

Oh, it was SUCH a beautiful day! After the rain, rain and more rain yesterday, it was finally a bright, sunny day. Absolutely beautiful!

First thing I did when I woke up was check my email and then Sunny and I went out for brunch to this awesome place called Pomelo. Such good food - I totally pigged out! :) I had a Seatle brunch - they had one from all over the globe! It was fantastic! After brunch, Sunny and I went to her friend John's house and we were there for about half an hour while Sunny left some of her stuff there and we spoke to John.

After, Sunny and I went to Union Square to shop. We shopped at Ross and then went to buy me red jeans - which I found, but they were only until my ankle, and I wanted longer ones. So I didn't buy. If I'm spending $100, I may as well buy something that's exactly what I want. I also tried on red lipstick at the Mac store to see if it suits me, because I'm all for red all of a sudden. I wish there were more red clothes in the stores - I would love to buy some red tops. And some orange ones too!

I bought a Ghiraedelli chocolate (my first one!) at a random store where Sunny stopped to buy an energy bar because she was hungry.

And then Sunny and I went on (the world famous!) cable car :) It was fun! Where we got off though, it was super scenic - the sun was setting, the sky was bright, and the breeze was light. It was SUCH a beautiful day! :)

We walked and met Caarolyn, and the three of us went to a Thai restaurant for dinner. Rahul, Uma and Sriparna were supposed to join, but they weren't able to find parking, so they just went back. The three of us ate there though - AMAZING food. I had fresh crab with garlic noodles, and it was soooooo yummy!

After, Sunny and I took a bus back to our place, and it was fun again. Sunny is so much fun! :)

Came back to the apartment, talked to Smitha for a bit - she's off to Utah tomorrow, and then slept off.

Day 13: The Tourist

It was raining, but that was no deterrent! Here's what I did:

Sunny went house hunting, so although she and I left the house at the same time, we went in opposite directions. I went sightseeing. With my roommate Smitha, Rahul and his friend Sriparna. We went to the SFMOMA (San Francisco Museum of Modern Arts) where we met Georgia as well. Sriparna brought her car and drove us around, which was very nice of her! Before getting to SFMOMA, we waited for Shailaja for a while, she came with us to the museum, but she eventually didn't come into the museum with us.

Anyway, Googlers get free entry, which was great! Turns out we can take one guest for free too, but we didn't know that and Sriparna had already bought her ticket :( The museum itself was pretty nice with some interesting stuff, but a lot of it all just went over my head and I ended up getting a little bored. Maybe I'm not arty enough, and I'm so happy that no artist was around to make me feel intellectually inferior. :)

Georgia left straight from the museum, but Rahul, Smitha, Sriparna and I went to Lori's Diner for lunch (remember the 50's theme place that Mrin, Sas, Gapa and I had been to last time?) :) Had awesome lunch and a mimosa each (except Smitha, who doesn't drink). Shailaja joined us too, and then Smitha and she went to Union Square to shop.

Rahul, Sriparna and I went to de Young museum where Paul was waiting for us. Paul had a membership, and he could take one guest - me, so Rahul and Sriparna bought tickets. Turns out Paul could take 3 guests and we ended up buying tickets (again) when we didn't need em!

De Young museum was really awesome. We first went to this tower that gives a 360 degree view of SF, and in the rain it was SO green and pretty! Fantastic view. And then we went to the Jean Paul Gaultier fashion display (he's a French haute couture fashion designer), which none of us thought we'd be too interested in but went anyway, and that grabbed our attention, to say the least. To begin with, the mannequins SPOKE! It was creepy - I was telling Paul that I would not want to be here alone at night - the mannequins were blinking, looking at us, smiling and so on. For so long I stared, wondering if it was actually people who were standing really, really still, but they weren't. In the end, we figured out that the faces were being projected on - but you would never be able to tell! It was pretty fascinating. And then we went and saw all the couture that was on display and it was pretty darn fantastic. For context, Madonna wore his design and made it famous - the conical boobs. So cool I say.

We moved on to the native American display, and so much stuff there was very close to Indian art from two or three hundred years ago... it's just hard to imagine how similar it is. They also had a map that showed Asia and America - they're next to each other on the other side of the world, which is easy to forget sometimes :P The map had a pictorial representation of all the wildlife found in the entire region - an entire wall of this map. Pretty cool. We moved on to some interesting historical section - they had pieces of a burnt Church hanging from the ceiling - which was a black Church burnt down by the KKK. And there was a model of a Cathedral built entirely with ammunition - very, very intense. Phew - we ran around the rest of the museum because it was closing time (5pm) and then stepped out into the rain feeling like we'd seen something very interesting :) Rahul and I agreed that we like History and Science museums better than Art museums. :)

We went to the parking lot and a plan to go drink at Zeitgeist was formulated there. Billy (who was not feeling well earlier), was already on his way there, so we went there and got some beers. Chris, Georgia and another friend of theirs, Al, joined us there. It was a big, happy bunch. Loads of fun, even though it was rainy and cold!

Then we went out to this Mexican place for dinner where Maggie and her boyfriend joined us, and Uma, who just landed in SFO from Hyderabad joined us. We ate so much food, and we were a huge, noisy group of about twelve people - it was pretty fun! Then Paul and Billy walked with us till the car and then Sriparna dropped me here and then the three of them took off to Santa Clara.

I walked in - my boots were soaking wet, my socks were soaking wet, my feet were soaking wet - I put them all out to dry in front of the thermostat :P

Spoke to Anishaa and Ma! :) It was nice although I was soooo tired. Sigh :) Nothing like family!

Sunny called me - she was at a party and driving back from San Jose. I told her to call me when she reached, because I'd be asleep. In an asleep-state, I went and let her into the building, and then I came back and slept off even though she was talking to me - I was so tired!

Day 12: Friday Blues

I worked SO much today, SO MUCH and I was annoyed during the first half because I met my manager and I was told he also didn't know about the communication I received in terms of postponing all the trainings etc. that I had come for. Frustrating.

I also gave him the big news.

Other than that, Billy, Paul, Chris, Rahul and I went to Plymouth for Taco Friday and it was GREAT Tacos! I also met Tanya who came to office to meet me. I met Kommu too, who was hanging out with Tanya. Oh and turns out Navin Rao is also in Mountain View! He's traveling back on the same day as me too! Cool, huh?

I then got most of my work done, but was still swamped and frustrated, so Sunny told me to step out with her. Went out with her to Castro street and had a beer. We were with Karen and Pam and they have both previously worked with Sunny. Pleasant evening out. :)

We both came back to office and took the shuttle back and I finished my work. We talked to my roommate and Sunny's now asleep and I'm going to sleep now too. Plan is to be at MOMA by 10.30am tomorrow with Georgia, Sims, Rahul and his friend.

Day 11: Meeting "them"

Today was a really busy day at work, but I finished it off. I was supposed to meet Sas's cousin and her husband in the evening, and I did!

I also met Allan and Abhay for lunch - we went to Madras Cafe and had dosa and masala tea! :) Also, turns out Abhay is from VNS!! And so we talked about folks from school - he's in Natasha's (Iciri's sister's) batch from school! What a small world! :D

Dinner.

At first, I was a tad nervous. Oh man, but Sugathri is AWESOME! I had such a good time hanging out with her and Kalyan! They came and picked me up from work and then we went for dinner to this Thai restaurant. We talked for quite a while - they are very sweet and real fun. Post dinner, they actually came all the way and dropped me off at my apartment in SF even though they live in Santa Clara, which is an hour away! We talked for a bit even at the apartment, and then they left.

Gosh, SO much fun! We talked about all kinds of things. :) They're both so cute!

Tomorrow is going to be a long, long day. It's a holiday in India ! Which means extra work for me! :! Phew!!

Also - this is the first day in the week when Sunny was not here and I was all alone at home. So miss her! :( She's gone to some party and not coming back tonight. The house feels khaali. :|

Day 10: Big News, Big Day

To begin with, Sas finalised the house today! :) YAYYYYYYYY!!!!!! Feels great!

Second highlight - My day started off with a peer bonus! Wheeee :) Saw the email first thing in the morning! It feels awesome :)

The day started funny - Sunny and I bumped into these 2 guys from the Boston office who sort of ran after the GBus. It was funny because they came and asked us a short while later if we were heading to the shuttle stop when they saw our Google IDs, and we said yes. Seemed like fun people, and definitely entertained us a little early in the morning! :)

Went to work, where I met Alex Popper again - he's moved to the SF office but was in MTV today. He's so funny. Like odd funny. Nice to hang out with.

Ruined Boots.

I stepped in wet grass while looking at planes flying overhead and got my boots all wet and grassy. I got most of it off by rubbing them with tissue paper. But they're kind of tearing and were wet.

Work, Work, Work.

I got a whole lot of work done through the week towards trainings and meetings etc. - like I mentioned, and then, BOOM! One email thread from some arbitrary manager (who I've never even heard of) knocked two of my 4 rotation programme targets out the window. Gah. I was pissed, because I'd already done all that work. Waiting for my manager to explain.

I had lunch with David and Georgia and found out more about the team I work with, which was good to know background. Good lunch.

Post lunch, I had a meeting that made me realise I need more data related to my work, and I need my manager to give it to me so I can answer more questions. Finished off more work after that and was done by 6pm.

Moving Sunny.

Post 6pm - which is the time I was able to manage to finish work (:O I know, right?) I went to Sunny's place - it was her last day at her house in Mountain View. Sunny, a friend of hers - Christina and I helped her with the last minute moving - stuffed a big, fat, heavy mattress into Christina's car and stuffed all Sunny's remaining belongings in her car's boot and in Christina's car.

Then we went to Tied House in Mountain View. We had some good dinner with a beer. We'd been waiting for Rahul to join us, but after he hadn't arrived yet 20 minutes after he was supposed to have, we called him. Even though I specified that we were going to be at Castro Street in Mountain View, he took the shuttle to Castro in SF. Which was worrisome, so Sunny and I wrapped up quick, left the car in office and went to the shuttle stop. We told Rahul that he could come stay, because going back to Santa Clara at that time would be crazy - especially because it would take an hour. But before we got to where he was, a friend of his went and picked him up. So, well, he had an adventure!

Sunny and I were super tired by the time we came back. We just crashed.

Day 9: Oh-so-tired!

I had a super busy day again. Created training decks, contacted and coordinated to meet with a whole bunch of high-level folks -- managers etc. and got loads of regular work done. The tools I needed to work were not working properly today either, which was frustrating.

I had lunch with Alec and Allison though, and it was great! At night I had dinner with Gapa, Rajiv, Sunny, Avanish and Alex. It was funny to bump into Rajiv and Popper! :)

Worked after getting back home today as well. Sigh.

Day 8: Crazy Workday

Sunny and I drove to work this morning. I enjoyed driving the car, but there was really bad traffic and after a point I was annoyed on the road. Turns out the traffic was so bad because there had been an accident. I shiver at the thought of accidents here! It was not too bad though, although 4 cars were damaged. We got to work on time anyhow.

Crazy Monday.

The workday itself was super crazy. My work tools weren't working for the first half of the day. Which was kind of painful. I went and had lunch with Pratt and Jeena, told them I was getting married :D I also ended up meeting Shukla, Tulika, Akhil, Alec, Nagalakshmi, Srikanth, Nanjappa and Satish Shah while we were eating. It was funny to see SO many people (originally) from the India offices all in one spot. Post lunch I got chai with Georgia, and it was so nice chatting with her. But then after that I was at the technical team area fixing things and figuring out problems with all these accounts. Resolved one billing issue that had been crazy for 3 days straight! And then I sat with Andrew (who I finally met in person) and resolved a couple of pending Analytics questions.

So after ALL this roaming around, I finally got cracking at 5 and between 5 and 7 I was going non-stop at my laptop. Then Sunny called me for dinner, and Rahul, Sunny and I had dinner at Charlie's. I still had so much work to finish so I thought I'd work on the shuttle, except that my laptop was dying, so I had to shut off and I tried to nap for a bit. So stressed about needing to finish work !

Come the stop and Sunny was feeling sick :( We got home and she had some Pepsi and felt better after that. I hit work again and I was so unresponsive to Sunny throughout the time that I was working - even though she was talking to me :| But I just wanted to get done with it. Oh, the exhaustion!

And then when I was nearly done, Sunny asked me how I knew Ashwin Nath because she knows him too - it was an odd blast from the past moment :D Anyway, I told her how I used to know him, and somewhere in the middle of the story, Sunny was snoring away :)

I struggled to finish the last bit of work through extreme exhaustion, and finally fell asleep a little past midnight.

Sunday, March 18, 2012

Day 7: Lazy-ish Sunday

What a fun day today! I didn't do anything substantial. Here's what the day was like:

Sunny and I woke up, did laundry and chilled for a bit. I talked to Sas a little. Then Sunny and I went to Castro for brunch. We ate southern brunch, and I was FREEZING throughout because I didn't dress very warm, and SF winds are crazy cold! I didn't enjoy the area as much as I should've because I was so cold. Unfortunate.

We drove back and parked downstairs again, and I slept for a bit while Sunny finished laundry, then I woke up, spoke to Mrin, oiled my hair and finished laundry and then Sunny went out to re-park her car, and came back sad when she discovered she'd got a parking ticket! :( Booooo! :(

I took a shower, then Sunny and I re-parked the car in the guest parking for free thanks to the nice girl at the reception, and then walked to this awesome sushi bar. We ate and drank and talked a lot there, and the bartenders were nice :) BUT there was a creepy guy sitting next to us, and that was just uncomfortable. The bartender girl kept giving us good recommendations and nice food, and the bartender guy kept walking by to sort of check on us by conversing with the creep. Sweet of him.

Sunny and I walked back, watched some shows and talked for a bit and slept.

Day 6: Awesome Saturday

I woke up relatively early in the morning, took a Caltrain to Mountain View -- went to Sunny's place where she and her friends and I packed all her stuff and shifted it to storage. We all hadn't eaten anything, and we were just doing all this work until 4pm. Sunny drove a moving truck! :D Awesome, huh? I drove Sunny's beamer while she was driving the moving truck.

Korean Barbeque.

Since we were all so hungry, we decided to get some Korean bbq at 4pm, once we got done. And we ATE and ATE and ATE. Oh man, I haven't eaten that much in one sitting my entire life, I think! I didn't talk for the first hour that we were there, while I wolfed down the food. After that, I calmed down a little. It was such great food - all the meats, the green tea, the fantastic spread of veggies, oh man, I enjoyed it SO much! Sighhhh :) I'm in love all over again (with food!) :D

Getting back to SF.

I got Sunny to get some of her stuff to my place, and we got in the car and drove back to SF. Sunny has an injured knee, so this was pretty taxing on her, but a shower later, she was good to go! :) She even did one load of laundry at my place! We got ready to head out for drinks.

Thirsty Bears Brewery.

Since I'd bailed on Chris the previous day, we had planned to meet today. He, Sunny and I went to this brewery, which was really nice, and we had some vanilla beer and Sunny had a couple o cocktails. It was peaceful, all of us just chilled out for a bit, and then Chris went off to a dancing party - for which he said he'd bought a costume! :)

Fun evening! And then Sunny and I got back, got dressed for bed and slept by 12.30am.

Day 5: Working from home

As you can imagine. Double back to previous post for more info.

I woke up -- absolutely unable to remember how I paid the cab guy (although I'm fairly sure I paid in cash), NOT remembering how I got upstairs and into my apartment. I threw up some more. Miserable. Headache was not so bad though. Hero that I am, I logged in to work at 9am! But I was working from home. I talked to Sas who screamed at me to get some food into my system even though I was throwing up even water.

It was raining incessantly - it hasn't stopped raining since I got here - and since I'm on the 14th floor (yes, my new apartment is on the 14th floor, it's pretty awesome) the wind was howling all day. Little creepy. :P I took a short nap and I was all better. I ordered in for a pizza and ate it. Portions here are crazy - so basically there's loads of pizza still lying in the fridge. :)

I finished work and then Chris said he and Georgia were at a bar, in case I wanted to join. I also spoke to Kalpi who said she was going out clubbing, and asked if I wanted to join. Sunny asked if I'd go over to her place this evening. I ditched all of that and finished work, talked to Sas for a short bit and I'm gonna sleep now, 'cause I'm so tired. Got a train to catch to go to Sunny's place tomorrow!

Gnite :)

Day 4: New Beginnings?

I woke up late (oops) and started to pack all of my things. Yes, shifting apartments. So from my studio apartment, I gotta move into a 2 bedroom shared apartment -- which is fine, as long as I don't have an irritating roommate. ;) I have to shift back to this original apartment in 15 days though :| Ah well, I get to be in SF!

So I packed, and I was supposed to work out of the SF office today, so I was prepared to take the late shuttle to work - since it's really close to my apartment. It so happened that packing took longer than expected, and I missed the last shuttle to work. So I took a cab to work. Bad-ish start to the day.

SF Office. [NEW]

Overlooks the bay bridge, and is SO pretty! It's got this whole beach theme going, and it's just so awesome looking. It feels a lot more informal. Shira and Michael were there too, and I had lunch with them. Andy introduced me to the rest of the sales team that sits in SF, and I met Maggie in the evening. Overall, it was a decent workday although I was pretty much rushing to get work done because I had to check out from my berry street apartment and check in to the new Beale street apartment (which is walking distance from the SF office!). And then there was the plan to meet in Orbit Room.

I finished work by 6 (when I was supposed to meet these guys at 6 - ulp!) and then got into a limo-cab (I know!) and took him to the old apartment, made him wait while I got my stuff out, went to the new apartment, [NEW] made him wait while I put my stuff in to the apartment, and then made him drop me to Orbit Room by ~7.

Orbit Room. [NEW]

Oh my gosh, my first time really hanging out with "the real Americans" who I discovered were all not all-American at all - they're part German, part Irish fellas! :D So it was Sims, Georgia, Chris, Paul and Billy. James didn't join us. :( They were already some drinks down because they'd been there for an hour. I had already told them that I only drink beer and wine, but they said that it's time for a bachelorette party the American way, and that I should have cocktails. I obviously bought in to that! :D Had some great drinks though - four of them. Sims left quietly early on, but the rest of us broke off only around ~9.30 - 10. It was so much fun! :D A whole lot of laughing and talking and drinking and a little pizza later, I got in a cab to the new apartment.

I was totally fine until I got into the apartment. And then I threw up and threw up and threw up. :( Cocktails mess up my system now I guess - I've been so used to drinking just beer and wine! Oh man, it was so bad. I just passed out soon after.

Day 3: Visiting Old Friends

The good thing about today is, even though I chilled out a lot, I got a whole lot of work done. I was sort of bored through the day, and I went out to CL2 to meet all my friends there. Everything's changed though - a lot of people have moved to the SF office, a lot of people have changed desks, there are a whole bunch of new folks... but those who I met were so happy to see me! It felt good, it's great to be back.

I wanted to go out with Kalpi for salsa dancing in the city, but I still had some work, and I was just so tired that I decided to go back home. Picked up dinner at PIC (awesome dinner btw), and a long ride back on the shuttle, where I fought sleep. Finished work, talked to Sas, slept.

Tuesday, March 13, 2012

Day 2: Hello Hello

Today was my first day at work. It was dark at 7.00am, and that surprised me a little bit, because the last time around, it was bright at 6.00am and dark only around 8.00pm. It's daylight saving time. I wanted to get the 7.25am shuttle to work, but it was raining and I took longer to walk to my stop, so I ended up boarding the 7.40am to work. California rain is an annoying drizzle that I don't much enjoy. Taking the late shuttle was just fine, I started working on the bus. My day started with a peer bonus which felt oh so good! What a nice start. :)

In office, I spent most of the day catching up with people, I hung out with Paul and Georgia and met all of the old team that I worked with. It was so great to see everyone! I also chatted online with a bunch of folks who I used to sit with, and everyone was just so happy that I'm back, it feels good! :) Kalpi's here too, so I met her and we got some "roomie time in the US" :) Haha.

I got me my new cell phone number - Paul came with me to get it, and then Billy, Paul and I had lunch. We made vague plans to hang out in the evening, but that didn't work out - I still feel jetlagged, so I didn't want to risk going out and falling asleep on the road or something. :| Billy was also feeling a tad unwell, so we decided to hold it off until next week. And THEN I got some work done, but I had quite a lot of work, which I had a hard time getting through because I was so sleepy. I eventually got done with work around 7.00pm, and went for dinner with Gapa, Koushik and Rahul. Finished dinner, talked to Gapa for a bit, got on the shuttle.... and I'm on the way back to the apartment. It continued to rain all day... it gets cold and unpleasant when it rains, it's just drizzly... more damp than wet, and it doesn't even smell like rain in India, which is the whole big fun thing about rain!

It's been a long day, and I think I'm just going to hit the bed as soon as I get back.

Adios! :)

Day 1: The Landing

Super excited to be in San Francisco! :) :) :)

Today was fairly uneventful though. I got off the flight, took a cab and got to my apartment, where I had to wait thirty minutes to go to the apartment itself. The apartment (a studio in SF) is beautiful, overlooking the King's street Caltrain station.

What I did: I unpacked a little bit, made a few calls to everyone in California, telling them I was here again. Billy and I had planned to surprise Paul, but that didn't work out, so we just told him I was here and we'll meet tomorrow.

I went out to get some food, got lost in the apartment (it's confusing as a maze!) and by the time I made my way out it was dark and I was too sleepy. With no phone to help me with directions, I wasn't in the mood to step out, so I just came back to my apartment, talked to Pa and Sas for a bit and then passed out at around 8.30pm.

THERE'S TRIP TWO TOO!

Ola !

Did you miss reading this? I sure missed writing it! But hey - I'm BACK! Yes, I'm in the US again. For ~thirty days this time. And I'm documenting this trip here too. :) So read on and enjoy. Comment if you like anything!

And so begins the documentation of my second US trip - THERE'S TRIP TWO TOO! It just had to be an alliteration. :)
